Looking for the largest fun-filled
family event in the Great North Woods? Look no further!!
The undisputed king is the
Lancaster Fair that has been open for 137 years in succession.
The Labor Day weekend extravaganza spotlights
agriculture activities, a large midway, 4-H exhibits, diverse musical
entertainment and motorized competitions (pulling events
and the ever-popular
Demolition Derby),
The grounds also boast wide clean midways and free parking.
From one end of the 65 acre compound
straddling Route 3 to the other, the fair sprawls out for six days of camping,
relaxation, and honky tonk atmosphere capping another North Country
summer. On any given day in the week-long schedule there are activities,
exhibitions, competitions, and entertainment too vast to sample.
From the Alexander Hall, where vegetables (including the county'
s largest pumpkin), flowers, and Grange exhibits are displayed , to the other end of the fairgrounds for horse pulling events, oxen skills
competitions, sheep dog trials, and tractor pulls, one can sense the pulse of the region,
its history, its roots, and enduring family values.
On weekend nights, likely as not,
a nationally known musical group will be entertaining
largest sing-a-long in the area.
In short, many of the
ingredients to our Great North Woods lifestyle and work are celebrated at the county's
signature event...the Lancaster Fair.
Where else would you expect to find a real old fashion country fair but
in the country!!
